About The Role

As a Book Category & Merchandising Strategist, you will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of our book assortments across Specialty Stores and Improved Gramedia stores. Your primary focus will be on curation, display, and inventory management, ensuring our offerings resonate with our customers and drive business growth.

You will be responsible for identifying and nurturing relationships with external publishers, influencing negotiations to align with our store concepts. Furthermore, you will analyze sales performance, inventory turnover, and space productivity to provide data-driven recommendations for category expansion or reduction, continuously optimizing our book selection.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience in Merchandising or Category Management

  • Experience as a Buyer in Retail, Bookstore, or Lifestyle sectors is preferred

  • Familiarity with the book industry is a significant advantage

  • Proven understanding of book categories and reading trends

  • Experience with merchandising and display thinking

  • Ability to read and analyze sales data

  • Understanding of customer browsing behavior

  • Strong strategic thinking capabilities with a practical approach

  • Passion for books and literature

  • Detail-oriented and structured work ethic

  • Curiosity and a commitment to staying updated on trends

  • Comfort working collaboratively across diverse teams (VM, Operations, Marketing, Merchandising)

  • Ability to provide strong, data-backed recommendations

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and curate book categories, balancing popular titles with niche and exploratory selections, and recommending category/title refreshes based on trends and performance.

  • Design book display strategies, including zoning and effective category grouping, to enhance the customer browsing experience.

  • Identify and evaluate external publishers, ensuring alignment with each store concept's identity, and influence strategic negotiations.

  • Analyze sell-through, inventory turnover, and space productivity to provide recommendations for category adjustments or expansions.

  • Understand customer behavior and browsing patterns, identify local and global book trends, and leverage insights to guide category strategy.
