About The Role

As a Book Advisor, you will serve as the heart of our bookstore, bridging the gap between readers and the stories that transform them. Your primary purpose is to curate a welcoming environment where every visitor feels inspired, ensuring that our shelves remain thoughtfully organized while providing expert, personalized literary guidance that turns casual shoppers into lifelong book lovers.

You will act as both a knowledgeable guide and a seamless facilitator of our retail operations. By balancing deep literary engagement with efficient store management, you will play a pivotal role in driving sales, maintaining our collection’s integrity, and fostering a community space that celebrates the joy of reading.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Experience in retail, preferably in the book or literary industry.

  • Previous involvement in organizations or communities related to books, literacy, or customer service is a plus.

  • Experience in customer service, product recommendation, or sales is highly preferred.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of books, genres, literary trends, as well as publishers and authors.

  • Ability to recommend books based on customer preferences in an informative and engaging manner.

  • Basic understanding of English to comprehend various literature and imported books.

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Canva.

  • Nice to have skills: Ability to manage and create social media content, and/or the ability to organize events and collaborate with communities to ensure successful activities.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Sales and Customer Advisory

  • Greet and serve customers warmly to create a welcoming shopping experience.

  • Provide in-depth book recommendations based on customer preferences to build loyalty.

  • Utilize engaging communication skills to convey book information and enhance customer interactions.

Product and Inventory Management

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the available book collection and stay updated on current literary trends to provide valuable insights to customers.

  • Monitor stock availability and report restocking needs to ensure customers always find the products they are looking for.

  • Collaborate with the team and management to create appealing book display strategies that align with current promotions.

Store Operations

  • Handle sales transactions and ensure the payment process runs smoothly in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

  • Ensure customer purchases are processed in an orderly and efficient manner, from the display area to the cashier.

  • Prepare daily reports regarding team performance and customer experience for service evaluation.

  • Identify and resolve store operational issues using a solution-oriented and efficient approach.

Store Programmes and Collaboration with Team to Reach Success

  • Communicate with the team to gather feedback and ideas for service improvements.

  • Support the implementation of store programs or campaigns to boost customer engagement and store appeal.

  • Adapt promotional strategies and store events based on current trends and customer needs.
